Chauncey,

Thanks - lots o' good reading for the trip home and back. With more than a twenty hour train ride, I am sure I will be itching for a few good books.
Thanks for taking the time to look all that up for me...By the way, what does the closing "YHOS" mean?

The best for the holidays -

Sarah K. M.

: Sarah K M -
: Nothing will go out from Horst, I believe, until January probably following the meeting of the King's Rangers.

: As for books, for the big picture I strongly recommend "Montcalm and Wolfe" by Francis Parkman. For the Rangers, I recommend "Robert Rogers of the Rangers" by John R. Cuneo and "America's First First World War" by Tim Todish. The latter is not in print but I have a spare (signed) copy to lend you. Also you should get "Rising Above Circumstances - the Rogers Family in Colonial America" by Robert J. Rogers -- this is key because (1) it has a lot about James Rogers (Horst's group) and (2) Horst was a contributor to the book. You can order this from the publisher in Canada and save yourself some $$ on the exchange rate -- 1-450-248-7319.

: Whatever you do, don't bother with anything by Loescher--he made up enough information that the book is nearly a work of fiction!

: Feel free to contact me offline if you want any more help (e.g., what to get and where -- especially if you want men's shirts!).

: : Pvt. Chauncey,

: : I am not a member yet, but hope to be involved with some of the activities for next season! Horst said that he would put me on the mailing list to keep me abreast of stuff but I guess nothing has gone out yet because I haven't gotten anything (?) Anyway, I have been reading some of my husband's history books on early American history (he has a ton). Would you recommend any in particular? Your website (very good by the way) is so chock full of good info that I figured you must have a mountain of material :) Anything about Ranger history specifically, even?

: : : Dear Sarah K M,
: : : I entirely forgot to mention that at a recent evening of Christmas Revelry at Fort No. 4, James Rogers (aka Horst Dresler) informed me he had met someone named "Sarah" who knew his name and was interested in becoming a Ranger. He was in his shop and this Sarah was there, saw his name and knew it from -- my website perhaps?? He thought that was an amazing coincidence, as did I. Congratulations on joining. Please do contact me if you need help with anything!!! You have much to learn, which will be fun and interesting!

: : : : Although new, I keep up with lots of the happenings on the page. I have conversed recently with Mr. Horst Dresler about becoming a reenactor in his group, and am very excited. He lives very close to me, and I recognized his name one day (I had heard it on the board) when he came into the store where I work. I hope to be able to join - thanks to some people in mohicanland for making me aware of such a cool hobby (and way of life for some).
: : : : I don't look at the page every day, as I work quite a lot, but I will try to keep up with you as best as I can. Merry Christmas.

: : : : : Ok, ok....I am still alive....just bogged down in real life right now :0(

: : : : : I am hoping that with the arrival of a brand new year, will come new 'thoughts' for you all.....but for the time being...let me just wish you all a very Merry Christmas!
