GROUND ZERO AMERICA
Since September 11, the phrase "ground zero" has become part of the American
vernacular, representing two extremes: the best and the worst of humanity.
The History Channel's special presentation Ground Zero America, anchored by
Roger Mudd, provides a historical record of the past and a revealing
perspective on the present. Ground Zero America airs November 13 through 16
at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT (8 p.m. CT). The four programs in this special
presentation are:
THE WORLD TRADE CENTER: Tuesday, November 13 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT (8 p.m. CT)
The World Trade Center was a towering symbol of technological ingenuity. It
represented America at its finest. In homage to this landmark, The History
Channel will encore its critically acclaimed documentary The World Trade
Center. Anchored by Harry Smith, the special offers some of the last
interior footage of the Twin Towers.
FIRST RESPONSE: Wednesday, November 14 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT (8 p.m. CT)
First Response is a one-hour documentary on the anatomy of first response:
how rescue workers, police, firefighters, volunteers and officials responded
to the terror attack on the World Trade Center on September 11th. The
program looks at how each group learned about the attack and follows step-by-
step how they proceeded throughout that day.
CHEMICAL AND BIOLOGICAL WEAPONS: Thursday, November 15 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT (8
p.m. CT)
In the wake of the recent anthrax developments, this documentary examines the
history and technology of chemical and biological warfare, which can be
traced back four thousand years, to the wars of ancient India, when soldiers
used toxic fumes against enemies. The program also provides chilling details
of the vast Soviet biological warfare program, which went on into the 1990's,
even though the Soviets denied its existence.
THE PENTAGON: Friday, November 16 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT (8 p.m. CT)
A military institution and a national symbol, The Pentagon became a prime
target for terrorists on September 11, 2001. The attack took the lives of 188
people and destroyed a recently renovated section of the building.
Immediately, after the attack The Pentagon's renovation team took action:
they assisted in the recovery, cleared debris and declared themselves ready
to rebuild. This documentary features interviews with Pentagon personnel and
historians who put the tragic events of September 11 into historical context.
The Pentagon also reveals the story behind its construction and the buildings
daily functions.
