Dear Sarah (ummmm, there are several Sarahs on this boards, such as Sarah M. and Sarah Z., so you'll want to add a last initial to your name when you post, so we can know who posts!),
The Lake George Tactical is an annual event that has been going on for many years (20 or so?). It consists of 18thC reenactors camping out at the lake for a full week of battles between the French and their allies and the Brits and their allies. It is a closed event (no public allowed), and we are "on stage" 24 hours a day, meaning we could attack or be attacked at any time. We must bring in only what we can carry on our backs, we eat when we can (if we can), drink from the Lake (fortunately, we can!). And be "on guard" at all times, which means an entire week of tip-toeing through the woods and whispering softly.
In the past, it drew more than 100 people, counting all from both sides. It got much smaller recently, but this year seems to have turned it around and helped regain lost momentum. On the British side, it has virtually become "our" event (that of Rogers' Rangers, based in CT), since we are the only British military unit coming out -- and we were out in big force this year, more than at some of our easier, shorter events!!. The rest of the people on the British side come in ones, twos, and threes from many other units and many states. On the French side, there are several military units that might show up (but we saw very few regulars this year), milice, and Indians. They will bring battoe (with swivel guns) and canoes, and we will have our canoes, so land and water attacks are both possible.
It's an amazing week; last year was a fizzle but this year was great fun! having spanked the French so often and so soundly this year, we expect them to come out in big numbers next year to get their revenge. So it should be great next year. (Clabert -- start planning your vacation NOW!!).
Where in Vermont are you? This weekend, we Rangers will be at Fort No. 4 in Charlestown, NH, reenacting the return of Rogers' Rangers from the raid on St. Francis. Come see us??

: Dear Pvt. Goodrich,
: Please tell me more about the Lake George Tactical Event. I am really interested. Is it a yearly thing? I live in Vermont, so I am pretty close to Lake George.
: Thanks!
