: Way to go!!!!
: We should all be ever-vigilant!!!
: : Hi All,
: : Just to let you all know that we CAN make a difference in this war on terrorism, I will relate some events that happened this past week to my sister.
: : She lives in the small town of Taylorsville, NC. Several days ago, she and her 19 year-old daughter were returning to their car in the Taylorsville Walmart parking lot, when they noticed a man of middle eastern descent standing near their car talking on a cell phone. He was speaking English, then switched to another language that sounded Arabic when they got closer. He never took his eyes off of them and retreated to the other side of his green SUV (NY license plate). As my sister walked to her car door she was able to see banks and banks of charging cell phones in the back of the SUV and an elaborate laptop computer set-up in the front seat. My neice happens to be engaged to a deputy sherriff in Alexander county and they immediately called him to ask if this observation was something that should be reported - he said he would contact the FBI just to be sure.
: : The FBI contacted my sister at home for details she could add and then they were able to get his plate number from the Walmart security cameras. Another citizen in Lenoir, NC reported the exact same activity at the Walmart there. The FBI began searching for this man, found him, and determined his activity WAS terrorist related!!!!! The FBI contacted her again at home on Saturday to explain what she had seen and to tell her to be careful since he could have her license plate number. YES, he had been detained, a judge set bail which he met immediately and he is now gone from the area. BAIL - for crying out loud!!!!! The FBI was flabbergasted!
: : The cell phone banks in the back of his "stripped out" SUV were being *cloned*. The computer and his cellphone are used to capture serial numbers from phones that are being used in a stationary environment (The Walmart) and "captures" the serial number which is then researched to see how long before the next bill is to be issued. If he finds a phone that has some working time on the bill he clones all the phones sitting in the banks from that serial number. The phones are then used to communicate in a way that is almost impossible to trace, because there are hundreds of calls being attributed to one serial number. Before the bill is issued or suspicious activity picked up, these phones are discarded or re-cloned. A question still unanswered in my mind is WHO is using these phones, one person or many, and are they in our own backyard????
: : So I guess we should be careful using our phones in Walmarts and malls and such, and above all "Keep your eyes open", you can make a difference!!!
: : Like Theresa said, be careful all!!!

Hi! Too bad that guy slipped through the cracks of the judicial system. They should check the ID (fingerprint and such...) and cross reference with other agencies before offering bail.
On a separate note, I also find it hard that cloning phones is that easy. Thought most new phones were "digital" and alot more difficult to clone than the "analog" phones. My guess is unless the cell phones are susceptible if in dual mode in some weak reception areas.
