Constructing a Gunstock warclub/Axe?

Hi, everyone. For my science project this year at school I am pursuing photography- but I have yet to work on an art project. I was thinking that I could construct a gunstock warclub similar to the one used in LOTM. Has anyone had experience building this beautiful peice? Could you share some pointers if so? Thanks for your time! :)
