: For fans of all things Scottish and historic, especially those in the South Carolina vicinity:

: Might I suggest the Charleston Highland Games, going on Sept. 15 at Boone Hall Plantation in Mt. Pleasant, SC. A beautiful location for one of the nicest, smaller Games you're going to find. NOT the huge crowds and huge parades like Grandfather Mountain, but a nice one-day chance to see some Scottish heavy athletics, listen to good music and maybe learn a little. A plus: just a 15-minute drive from downtown Charleston, with all its history and beauty.

Another thing to see just right across the street (walking distance) is the Charles Pinkney National Historic site. It's a small exhibit but pretty interesting especially to South Carolinians and what amazes me most is that for that 30-45 minutes that you walk around the grounds you are back 200 years ago on a huge track of land rather than the few true acres remaining with urban sprawl booming minutes away. "What a lucky man, to see the earth before it touched his hand..." Neil Young!
