Don't be scared, Scott ... it all makes sense!!!
By the way, I did do a review for Amazon a ways back -though it says, Elaine (she was the registered user & it automatically entered her name) - it is now on the second page of reviews.
Here it is:
"6 of 6 people found the following review helpful:
Michael Mann's A Gentleman, Not A Butcher, March 1, 2001
Reviewer: Elaine Federici (see more about me) from Marion, NC, United States
I really don't understand all the negative fuss & hullabalo over this "Director's Expanded Edition" release of an all-time classic - 1992's, "The Last of the Mohicans." Every scene added to this version enhances the telling of a clear, coherent story. It's pretty much all subtle stuff that serves to strengthen the undercurrents of the film. Yes, there is material, in the form of a line here & there, that is deleted from the original theatrical version, but ... BUTCHERED? Hardly. Forget the familiar, and the film flows in fine form. No longer is Hawkeye portrayed as a 90's pop-hero. Now, he's a bonafide survivalist. The only portion changed that matters is the elimination of Clannad's "I Will Find You" from the soundtrack. I liked that. But, I like the theme music that replaces it, as well. To me, it's a wash. I can enjoy it either way. The extended courier & parlay scenes are well worth the time & effort. Michael Mann's genious shines, even more, in this Director-edited version.
Overall, the movie in this version is stronger, ends with more impact, that gave even me - a viewer of this film hundreds of times in my search for the locations - a lump in my throat, and has unmatched, by any other version, sound & picture qualities ... just wait till you see the night scenes at Cameron's Cabin & The Burial Ground ... the color throughout is vibrantly vivid.
No problem here! I love it!"
: Was trying to find out about the "other" DVD. Clicked on the little LOTM icon at your review that takes you to Amazon.
: They had nine "You may also be interested in these items..." movies.
: You have to understand, I have purchased very few movies for myself over the years and generally speaking rarely want to see a movie twice.
: But out of the half dozen or so I own, two of them are among the Amazon nine--The Patriot, and Rob Roy. I have a third, rented, sitting in my living room for later--Lawrence of Arabia--perhaps my all-time favorite movie though I generally have no great desire to rewatch it.
: This of course isn't counting LOTM itself. I went to buy the tape a few months ago, but the store only had the DVD version. I recalled your review and looking about realized the future belong to DVDs, so I held off getting LOTM until I finally picked up a DVD player.
: When I got it, I almost picked up yet another movie that is among the Amazon nine--Gladiator. But my son said he'd seen it enough for the time being (we'd been renting the tape--he's more into the movie than I am, but it could grow on me).
: While I was there, I clicked on the customer reviews. They weren't favorable, to put it mildly. Perhaps you should put a link to your review over there. I like the director's cut myself. I do wish they offered both versions in the set, and it would be nice if you could have a choice of letterbox or "TV" format, but otherwise no complaints.

: : Oh, a note on the Bloopers: The bus blooper is only visible, for some strange reason, on THX versions of the video, not on the original video release. It's also seen in the 35mm Theatrical Release of the film, the laser disk, and the DVD (both versions) ... Weird!
