Russell is quite different from the old days, Just as passionate, but much less angry and more eloquent. I mean, don't get him riled up, but most of his speeches are thought provoking, but filled with humor, factual information. He has mellowed over the years and says that he has realized he can change more minds by engaging in dialogue, than with a gun. When he spoke here, people were amazed that the fire was there but presented in a way that they wanted to hear it. He doesn't ask people to agree, just to hear another viewpoint and think about it. He is certainly still very charismatic when he speaks. He almost command your attention by his very presence.
Of course I am a bit biased, but I do happen to like the things he stands for and says.

: : Hi All!
: : Don't know if I got to tell many of you, but Russell Means is running for Governor of New Mexico on the Libertarian ticket. Needless to say, I am working on his campaign - doing research on the Spanish Land Grants in New Mexico. Anyway, will be over there in two weeks. If anyone is interested in helping on the campaign or would like to make a donation, let me know. Also if anyone wants to know his positions, check out his website www.russellmeans.com. Or if you'd like me to forward any messages, pass them along and I'll bring them personally to him. And then wish us luck. In New Mexico, he actually has a chance of winning! Yippee!

: Oh, Ros, we KNOW! That's what Mary said to Wes at the Gathering, to make him laugh so hard during picture taking; "Glad to hear you're running for govenor of New Mexico"....you had told us and she thought it would be a good joke....
: My grandparents lived in Carlsbad and I have tons of cousins in a straight line up to Colorado in most of the towns. We know New Mexico fairly well; having spent vacations there as a kid.
: Good luck to Russell, how are his speeches going??? Is he a fire brand in them?
