Ben Ben Ben,
Well, I'm not one of the 100% Brits on this board but I'm darn near close. So I walk both sides of the fence. Notice that I posted the 4th of July post about the Loyalists (read "pro-Brits") -- I'm the American reenactor who portrays a Loyalist and who is more than 50% English by birth.
That said, you have to explain wherein "this country" (England) has been bashed in this movie?? If you were talking about -- oh, what was that movie, U2 or U boat or something like that? -- then I could understand it. But as much as I am SUCH an Anglophyle (jeez, I AM the English Trader born and bred mostly English and how much mileage do have have from trips to England to see the rellies?? Singing at their weddings and wearing big hats and whatnot? Some day I'll HAVE to visit cousin Jenny in Bristol...) ... LOTM IS NOT about bashing the English!! It is about the FACT that the French wiped out Fort William Henry (the Rangers were at Fortress Louisbourg, so naturally the French won). It is about the FACT that one Col. was a brave soldier (Monro) while another was a recognized coward (Webb) who was subsequently removed from his position. It is about the FACT that a French commander (Montcalm) had bigger and better weapons and more of them, and therefore was able to pummel the wooden fort on the edge of the lake. And it is about the FACT that the Indians were excellent warriors.
I'm not quite sure wherein the colors of Duncan's uniform, or any other the other "details" you mention bash the Brits?? We on this board are **__FOR__** the Brits, remember, so work with us here -- help us understand how this movie bashes the Brits beyond FACT (other than the colors of people's coats)????
Thanks,
Sarah M.
