: ...pretty far up there on the list of DDL/Hawkeye Fans. Way back when the movie first came out, or just before that. I remember reading an interview with DDL about his character and the language he would use. I seem to recall that he and the director, the screenwriter and some historians/linquist were quite involved in trying to come up with a dialouge that would be accurate. This was before I saw the movie (didn't see it right away becasue I flying around in Arabian Gulf), and before I read the books, so I really didn't understand the DRASTIC NEED TO COME UP WITH A DECENT THINGS FOR THE MAN TO SAY. DDL said that they had settled on a sort of proto-American/English/Native American dialouge. I think he said it came off as Clint Eastwood with an accent.. Do you remember that interview?

Hi, John!
Yes, you could say I'm a DDL fan, sartain! But no, I don't remember this particular interview. It sounds about right to me, but I'd love to read the whole thing. Anybody have any idea what publication it might have appeared in?
One of the first threads ever started on this Board dealt with DDL's accent in the film...a "for it or agin it" type of discussion. This interview might give some real insight into that discussion, too.
