: I just finished reading an exhaustive book, uncovering the "real Daniel Boone"  It seems a lot of myth, legend and tall tales were heeped onto Dan's merely extraordinary life, (on whom James Cooper based the character of Hawkeye.)  Coon-skin cap... myth(he dressed, by coinkidink, much like DDL appeared in this board's reveered movie); Indian hater...myth(he was adopted into the Shawnee tribe and never lost his affection for them); Indain fighter....at times.  Frontier Builder....by default; The same mold of man as the self-promoting Davey Crokett....blame the self promoting Davey Crockett for glomming on to Dan's legend and Fes Parker who played both rolls with the same characterisitcs.
