The Boones moved to the area when Danny was in his teens. They ran into trouble with the Quaker "Bretheren" in Penn, for letting Danny's older siblings marry whomever they fell in love with (....Damn radicals.) They founded the Joppa church as a non-denominational refuge. From there, Danny ranged over the hills on "long hunts" into "Can-Tuc-Kay." the Iriquoi (sp?) word for a Shawnee village south of the Ohio valley. Wasn't someone else headed thar?
The Shawnee were pushed out of the region by the Iriquoi league in the 1680's and at LOTM times was inhabited by bands of Cherokee, Deleware, Iriqoui, Illinois and even mixed tribes. It was probably considered fair game by all the tribes.
