In Reply to: In Just One Month ... Exactly ... Oh, And HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY! posted by Rich/Mohican Press on May 13, 2001 at 06:52:52:
Thanks for the update Rich.....not long now.......woooohooooo!
Just a quick word on that wife of yours....I would also like to mention the fact that she is occasional surrogate mother to the frequently traumatised MP regular (like myself)...so all in all, she probably is probably 'miracle mom' to...oh, a good 500 or so! Personally I think she has cloned herself a la Michael Keaton, because I have never worked out quite HOW she does it! There is no doubt about the fact that you are one lucky dude, Rich, but at least you know it!!
Happy Mothers Day Elaine!! (((hugs)))

: ABOVE: The answer to our question, "Which theme, or film sequence, is your favorite?"
: OK, Gatherers, and all you other "wannabees!" - You know what happens EXACTLY one month from today? At precisely 3PM EDT? Why sure, you guessed it ... The Geneva will open its doors for us, the 2001 Great Mohican Gatherers, some 90 strong, for check-in! The next 4 days will, hopefully, be memorable ones for all of you ... and me, too!
: So, I guess this is a pretty good time to rundown the event, up-to-the-minute:
: Wednesday, June 13 - Most Gatherers will be arriving in the area at their choosen accommodation. Most of those will be staying at The Geneva. As at every Gathering, there are those who cannot come for the entire event - might be here just for the weekend, for example. So, it is rare that EVERYBODY is together at the same moment during the span of days.
: Thursday, June 14 - Our exploration of Linville Gorge begins early, REAL early, at the Opening & Closing Vistas, and ends, it seems, several days later, at the site of Fort William Henry. In between, we travel the George Road, get Ambushed, see parts of Canoes, and The Final Scene. Two meals are eaten at Louise's where we are expected.
: Friday, June 15 - Everything's set for a morning at The Elk Hunt & Tracking the War Party, and an afternoon & evening of horseback riding, each other's company, a potluck meal, and concert by 18th century-style musicians. Deadline has passed for signing up for this afternoon/evening activity. Ann informs me that there was a last minute rush, so that's GOOD!
: Saturday, June 16 - A Ranger will meet us to allow our vehicles INTO the forest for parking, then we'll spend the entire day at 4 waterfalls, a 2 mile stretch of river, seeing more from Canoes, a snippet of this & that, and, of course, The River Walk. Bring a dry set of clothes, as we'll be getting damp. At night, the movie ... The Last of the Mohicans on the big screen, with a special guest among us. Theater is SOLD OUT!
: Sunday - June 17 - All day at Chimney Rock Park for The Cliffs. Marcia has that well in hand, and we'll enjoy 3 meals there at the Park, with, of course, our special guest! After dinner, we'll head over to The Geneva to enjoy a fire & the raffles, including the special raffles of the two Magua prints ... one by H. David Wright, the other by James Bama.
: Throughout, you'll have the opportunity, in your spare time (HA HA!), to shop at the Traders' Post and/or Ariel's Auction - set up in The Geneva's community room, browse the streets of Chimney Rock Village, or take a late swim.
: The mini-18th Century encampment will be set-up at The Geneva from mid-day Friday - through the early morn of Sunday.
: Program Guides, courtesy of Jo, Sarah Z., and Mary and vehicle identification flags, courtesy of Diana S., will be distributed early on. T-Shirts, courtesy of Eric & Sharon, will be distributed , as well as this year's commemmorative CRP Gathering souvenir. We will have our period trek, led by Clabert, on Thursday.
: Did I forget anything?
: Oh, the special guest ... Wes has received his airline tickets & he, and his family, are booked for three nights at a local hotel. Speaking with Maura, about a week ago, we were informed of Wes' current filming project, in New Zealand, where he's working on a forthcoming ABC television series! We will make a presentation to Wes, on behalf of all the 2001 Mohican Gathering, sometime over the weekend ... more than likely, at the raffles.
: Of course, that's all on our Gathering Page; that and more, including a weather forcast.
: And here's who's signed on. The list may be adjusted slightly over the next month, as maybe we squeeze in a really last minute sign on :), or, recieve a cancellation :( - We've had our fair share of those already this year, so perhaps there'll be no more! "G" denotes that the person is staying at The Geneva.

: I think I got that right.
: New on the Site is the latest installment of "From The Ramparts," our update from Fort William Henry's Tim Cordell. Plus, as you've probably noticed by now, we've established ourselves as part of the History Channel's network of approved historical web sites.
: From the mailbag, a question ...
: "I am looking for some info on a scene in the Last Of The Mohicans. The scene is when Duncan arrives in Albany, and he is told the Daughters are at the patroon house. Now my question is what reference is made to the patroon house was it a certain patroon? Perhaps the Schuyler Flatts, to that of The Schuyler Family? I do hope you can answer my question of reference. By The Way, Keep Up The Great Work, you have a great website here, very informative and beyone the movie insight.."
: Any takers?
: And, it's Mother's Day! Happy Day to all you Mother's and ... never mind ...
: I know there's a lot of GREAT Mothers out there, but I've just got to tell you, my Web Site co-host, Elaine, has got to rank right up there with the very best of all time. Not only did she give birth nine times over (6 at home), but she's practically educated them single-handedly - can you imagine teaching several different grade levels all at the same time? All these kids are healthy, intelligent, and well adjusted ... a remarkable job she does. The love & care that she devotes to each & every child in our home, and then some, as she has volunteered her time to teach the kids at Church, as well, is remarkable! Every child should have it so good. On top of that, she keeps a home, under very adverse conditions, and is a top-notch cook. Then, in her spare time, she writes, and designs, and does art work, and ... NOBODY can humanly do all this. I haven't even mentioned taking this kid there and that one over there ... little league, work, youth group ... EGADS! It boggles my mind. I have nine very lucky children ...
: And what am I doing all this time? Good question! One I'll pass on answering ... :-)!
: So, do enjoy your Day, Mothers! You are very special people!
