This is an exerpt from an article that appeared in Thursday's Morganton News-Herald:
Dave Danley (botanist with the US Forest Service) smiled brightly when he came across the charred skeletons of the white pine trees and maples that once covered much of the high rocky ridges on the southeastern side of Linville Gorge.
"Man, it's great to see what this fire did," Danley said as he walked along a trail near the Table Rock section.
It goes on to say that the fire cleared the way for "a clean seedbed for rare groundcovers, such as the endangered Golden Mountain Heather."
"The fire also opened views on the trails along the rim."
