April 25th, 1759
Big Pool, Maryland
Just as the light fades, the long column stops at the top of the third ridge east of the little town of Hancock. In the distance everyone can see the lights of the Fort, and all around it can be seen twinkling candle lanterns and cook fires. Captain Croy has decided to camp here for the night, while the tents can be erected in what light is still available, and make the rest of the distance to the Fort at first light. Everyone is excited at the sight of what appears to be the biggest event we have ever attended. It will be hard to sleep the night through, even after the long walk that started at daybreak.
We will be at the Fort Freddie Fair tomorrow.
