: : I found this site after reading JFC's "Deerslayer", and I have to say that your enthusiasm for the period, for history in general and for the LOTM movie is infectious.

: Well, good!

: : I've not seen the movie since seeing a pirate version that someone picked up in Dubai when I was flying in the Navy, but it struck me then as one of the better movies I had ever seen. Now, I'll have to go find it and watch it again.

: Yeah ... tough chore!

: : I love this web site too, and have bookmarked it and will no-doubt read all it has to offer on the subject.

: Thank you! Appreciated!

: : What else is there? What other movies are good for people who loved this one?

: Hmmm ... this should provoke a wide variety of answers, but since no one has thus far stepped forward, I'll take a stab!

: "Good for people who liked this one" ... I can only assume that there is a common thread in all of us who have so thoroughly enjoyed "The Last of the Mohicans." Exactly what that is, I'm not quite sure, I can only list some of my very favorites. Perhaps you'll find a few to your liking. Before I list them, let me say that clearly LOTM is far and away the best colonial-era film around. The old standbys, like "Northwest Passage" can be entertaining, but I just can't rank them among my favorites.

: Here goes, in no particular order:

: Braveheart
: Rob Roy
: Lonesome Dove
: The Alamo
: Meet Joe Black
: Gladiator
: Son of the Morning Star
: Alien & Aliens
: It, The Terror From Beyond Space (the forebearer of the Aliens films)
: Most all Abbott & Costello films
: The Wizard of Oz
: 13 Days To Glory
: Dances With Wolves
: Jurassic Park
: Titanic
: Seven
: Gettysburg
: Glory
: Saving Private Ryan
: Easy Rider
: Bonnie & Clyde
: I Will Fight No More Forever
: Zulu, Zulu Dawn, & Shaka Zulu

: A few films on the Revolutionary War period you MIGHT enjoy are:

: The Patriot
: Revolution
: April Morning (deals with Lexington Green, the anniversary of which was yesterday, April 19)

: And a couple of old classics:

: Fort Apache
: They Died With Their Boots On

: That's some, off the top of my head ... Sounds schizophrenic, doesn't it? DON'T answer that!

Okay - call me a big sook but... how about 'Miracle on 34th Street' - the original?! I LOVE that movie!!

And - the Great British Easter Special (on EVERY year!) - 'The Great Escape' with Steve McQueen's beautiful blue eyes??!! Another one that I HAFTA watch!! :o) Then, there's ALL of John Wayne's movies! (Well, MOST of them.) And the Tarzan films, (especially Gordon Scott).

On British TV (don't know if you ever got the series in America)- you couldn't DRAG me away from TV when 'Robin of Sherwood' was on!! No way, nuh-huh, NO, NO, NO!! And when poor Michael Praed was killed and Jason Connery became the Hooded Man, I was STILL there, in front of the set, pouring curses down on the head of Sheriff de Renault!!!

And I MUST mention - and I think our MMMM will back me up here - 'The English Patient'!

Howdie Doodie and Flub-A-Dub?? Oh man, Bill, now you're talkin'! Those were the days!!

Yup, when it comes to movies, my tastes run to the 'intellectual' (NOT!!). :o))

Kate.
