: : In Deerslayer, which was written after LOTM, but took place sometime before, Hawkeye is around 20 years of age.  JFC never mentions Chingachgook's age, but it is implied that they are as brothers and that it is both's first warpath.  In the movie, Hawkeye refers to Chingachgook in more of a fatherly way.  The confusing part is that JFC implies that Uncas is a name that will be pass to Chingchgook upon maturation.
