Three Valleys East of Raestown
True to HalfBreed's assurance, we arrived at the grave site late this morning. We were very fortunate to have spent the night in the cavern, as it was bitter cold again at daylight. More snow had fallen, but it was very light and reminds me of white goose down. Enough firewood was gathered to keep warm all night inside the cavern, and we were reluctant to start our task this morning. But after a meal of warm mush and hot coffee we continued the trek.
Upon arriving at the site, we felt compelled to observe a moment of silence before setting to our work. The stones were removed; and beneath them was found the body, undisturbed, as we hoped. Dink and HalfBreed, with Sly, had wrapped the body in a groundcloth, spareing us the unpleasant sight within.
We have made our way back to the same cavern that was used last night. Dink shot a turkey, HalfBreed and Seamus collected two rabbits each. With barley, a few potatoes and an onion that Mr. Goersch brought along, and some dried corn, a fine Hare stew will be made. We will all share the roasted turkey.
We set off for the stockade at daybreak, and will arrive there before dark. A funeral is planned for the Sabbath with the entire Village expected to attend. Although we did not spend a night out in the cold, my bed will feel better tomorrow night than the hard cavern floor of tonight.
I hope Malcolm's health has improved. He had a bad sounding rattle in his chest when we left. He did not miss any exciting action on this trip, although i am sure he would have enjoyed the company of Matthias Goersch.
