: : Hey, Theresa!
: You think YOU'RE a bit nervous?? You should have heard the conversations going on in MY car on the way to the FIRST Gathering. We were considering possible scenarios ranging from finding ourselves amid a group of relatively normal but somehow unpleasant people (bad breath, stinky bods, weird dress codes), to the seriously frightening prospect of discovering "Richfed" was actually Charles Manson's online nickname. (We figured maybe his still blood-thirsty cult might be luring innocent victims up to some remote mountain cabin to be held captive until the day when he FINALLY wins that damn parole he shoots for every year!!) We had planned out all our escape strategies and an alternate itenerary in case we simply couldn't handle being with this group that was, after all, a completely unknown quantity.
: All our fears were for naught! People began arriving amid shouts and laughter as we tried to put Board names with faces. There was a HugFest going on that would have made our Huggy Merchant proud! EVERYONE who showed up was simply just like we were...looking for fun in the mountains with a group of people who had the love of a great movie in common. And we FOUND it! That's why we keep coming back every year. Yes, it's great to see our friends from Gatherings past, but we look forward so much to making NEW friends, too! Each year brings new things to do, as well, which keeps it from becoming boring, believe me. THIS year promises to be the best ever!
: Don't worry...we can't wait to meet you! And we promise to be gentle!! ;o)

I can second that, Theresa. I think most of us brought our own cars to that first gathering so we could bail out if people got too wierd. Let's just say, no one bailed. It was a blast. Have no fears. In a group this size, if there are a few people who aren't your cup of tea, there are bound to be many others who are. You'll find kindred souls. I guarantee it.
By the way, I had always pictured Rich as short and fat and tempermental. What a shock to meet the real mccoy!
