Great news about Wes Studi! I'm torn between hoping he doesnt have to cancel for movie reasons, but hoping for his career he is flooded with movie requests.
The hackers: spamming (bulk emailing of unwanted, unsolicited ads) is against all ISP terms of service. Doing that will get you dropped as a customer and barred from other ISPs. So, they do their spamming by spoofing through somebody else's servers using somebody else's email address. Often the include the email address of the server they are spoofing through in the mailing list, or rip off mailing lists through.t he servers they hop through. Often they hop through four or five servers/locations so the trail is harder to backtrack. We had it done at the Library Systems I worked for. It probably was not a direct attack, but you did the right thing.
We need stronger laws about spamming and especially about attacks on servers or misuse of them. Whether a direct attack or just an opportunist passing through using the site as a vehicle for his spam, the results cost money, time effort and damage. Go get 'em Feebs!!!
