Cousins,
Flags, Tales and I are laying in a secluded ravine to the northeast of your stockade, away from the prying eyes of anyone who may take the message of our presence to Red Bud. We are taking turns on guard in case the creature happens upon us. We will lie here until we receive a signal from you or encounter any trouble. In the event we should be discovered and have to move, we will send another message to you.
Our trip here was basically uneventful. The snow slowed us somewhat, but we were wise to have traveled as we did. Our mules allowed us to make good time despite the weather conditions. We have left them in the village with the blacksmith and have paid him to care for them. While in the tavern getting some refreshment we overheard some talk of a woman disappearing, I believe she was a tavern wench. This makes me think, Cousins, that Red Bud is near, and all possible caution should be exercised.
We saw some sign of a party of Shawnee, too, a day ago. I fear that Red Bud will link up with them, and convince them to aid him in his evil cause. We will stay alert to this possibility.
If you need us to come to the stockade, raise a green cloth on the flagpole and we will come in. Otherwise, we will stay here and watch this flank. Tell Half Breed he can locate us by coming to the northeast 30 degrees from the large sycamore which stands on the east side, along the run which flows into the creek. We are about a half mile from the fort. When we talk with him, we can lay our plan for the vigil.
Pax aye!
