A while back, you may remember, we posted here a cover of the 2029 Great Mohican Gathering Program Guide. It featured a feisty card game in progress by the the Senile, but still Sweet, Sweetser Sisters 4. Still attending, after all those years! MY! Well, recently THIS little dandy of a photo was sent to us ... out of the very same publication! Must have been a great event! I am looking forward, with much anticipation, to the 2029 Great Mohican Gathering ... yes, I am! Oh! Who's this? Well, it comes from a VERY reliable source that those two babes floating there in Gathering bliss, on the Rocky Broad River, are none other than our own Diana & Cecelia. THAT'S who they are!

Moving on ...

"Great Spirit and Maker of All Life,

A MentorMan goes to your Hunting Grounds here on earth swift and sure as a
ponytail swinging in the breeze. Welcome him, and keep him safe on his
journey. Let him take his place at the Geneva Riverside and Cedar Creek,
and guide his footsteps through the Elk Hunt scene. Help him to track the
war party and to remember how to show others to do so. Tell him to be
patient, for we will ALL be there soon. Especially I, MMMMarcia, first of
the Mighty Mohican Mamas!

;o)"

I guess that qualifies as the E-Mail of the week! The Mighty One called upon the Great Spirit to help me during Gathering Field Trip One, which I embarked upon this past Monday. While I certainly appreciate the gesture, AND MMMM's literary talents, the Maker of All Life, in his (hopefully) infinite wisdom, had other ideas ...

I traveled all the way up there, to a place I hadn't been since I shot the photos in the guide booklet, back in 1993, in the hopes of revisiting all the locations of The Elk Hunt & The Tracking The War Party scenes ... to refresh my memory so that I wouldn't appear as a bumbling fool in front of the throngs & masses at the 2001 Great Mohican Gathering. Wait RIGHT there, buster! There was a gate across the Forest Service Road. It was closed for the winter! Let me tell you, folks, it's going to be more of an adventcha than we bargained for if I don't get up there again! Bring overnight provisions ...

Nah! Not to worry! Before you get to the roadblock, one gets to the Corner Rock Picnic Area. And adjacent to that Corner Rock Picnic Area are the woods that contain the area where the final sequence of The Elk Hunt occurs ... the "killing" of the elk. Of course it's a bit easier with all the leaves off the trees, but I did find that location rather easily. Walked right to it, in fact, as if I'd written the book.

So, we'll be OK. In fact, the MAIN reason I went up there was to gauge the travel time between there and The Geneva/Cedar Creek areas. Mission accomplished! Also, got to clear up some details with Cedar Creek.

Other Gathering Related Bits:

- Gathering Page is updated with the latest, at: http://www.mohicanpress.com/mo02001.html

- The special raffle of H. David Wright's Magua portrait, entitled, "The Warrior," is being offered STRICTLY through the mail. You must order your tickets, if you'd like to enter, by mail, for the simple reason that we don't want to have to deal with that at The Gathering ... there's enough other things going on. So, if you want to enter, send us your request. Attendance is NOT a requirement. Anyone can enter & win. See: http://www.mohicanpress.com/2001_raffle.html

- There is still room at The Geneva. Book now!

- There are still some horseback riding tickets left. Some restictions: weight limit is 250 lb., no pregnant women can ride, and if you are allergic to bee stings, bring your own medicine! The rides will be at one hour intervals, in groups of 10, or so. The horses are tame & well-trained. There'll be a guide at the front & at the rear, equipped with 2-way radios. It ought to be fun!

Web Site News & Notes:

- We've updated much, including Frontier News & Notes (the latest on the River Walk), From The Ramparts, our History Links, and elsewhere.

- Our "Ishi: A Real Life Last of the Mohicans," has been selected by Software2010 to be included in their World Online Digest Cd-Rom. We are quite proud!

- "On The Trail ... The Companion Guide," has been progressing, though our efforts were severely hampered by distractions that included moving our Web server to new quarters & attempting to resolve problems with Lainey's computer, which I managed to very expertly CRASH! Thankfully, I've figured out how to save her irreplaceable work ... book covers, etc. It appears, that despite Microsoft's fairly useless (so far) PAY support, we'll end up reformatting. No pain, no gain, I guess.

- The Mohicans Listening Room is completed, for now, & open for "business."

- I really hate to have to say this, but this Web Site NEEDS your support. Our Mohican Press Cafe was set up for just that purpose. See link above. The mugs, in particular, are of very nice quality! A little Web Site souvenir goes a long way towards keeping us up & running ... It's kind of a Catch-22 for us. First, we had to create a Web Site to sell my book. NOW, because of the vastness of this Site, we have to write a book to support the Site! A viscious circle! But, such fun!

Anyway ... Get those Gathering reservations in pronto. If you travel over to The 2001 Gathering Page, you'll know why!

Happy Trails!
