Even Hawkeye's mocs are going to be able to be tracked by a good tracker....those of us who have hunted have tracked deer when there is only a few leaves overturned on the forest floor, or a few bushes that seem a bit out of place....and I don't classify myself as a good tracker.  As for the two guns with Hawkeye, even if he was at point blank range, the recoil from the guns, holding them with one hand down at the side, would have caused them to kick, very difficult (impossible?? not sure cause I've never been fool enough to try it!!) to hold onto while shooting....It's Hollywood, folks....but still good!!!!!

: Yes, you are ABSOLUTELY RIGHT, Dr. Uncle Mark!!  That IS indeed, Hollywood for ya!! Get the 'facts' wrong - but the movie RIGHT!!  For in spite of everything, it's one helluva good movie!!  

: But you know how certain 'little things' just bug you sometimes about even your FAVOURITE film, starring your favourite actor - something just 'jars' and you can't get past it?  Well, this point always struck me as incongruous - 'if we buried them, they'd know we'd been there'.... Uh huh???  After all we've heard from you re-enactors, about the authenticity of clothing and about tracking etc., this is the line that 'jarred' for me and I wished they hadn't gone along that 'road'.

: As you say, Dr. U.M. - it's HOLLYWOOD!!  What's THAT got to do with authenticity????  However, in spite of that little 'annoyance', it's still the best goldarn film I've seen (hundreds of times)!!!
