My sense of it is........moccasin tracks are one thing. If you have seen a center seam moccasin track - it could be from ANY woodland tribe......and Huron seing more moccasin tracks would assume it was just their own, or another war party's tracks passing through. However, dig three GRAVES and they stand out like sore thumbs. War parties dont dig graves for their slain.
THAT would have surely tipped off the Huron and French that friendlies were in the area. Besides which, digging takes time.
The longer they stayed in the open, the more likely they would be spotted.

: I was forced to watch 'Last of the Mohicans' again a few nights ago. (Just doing my 'prep' work for the Gathering, dontcha know!!) and again, as usual, I found a certain scene just annoyed me no end!! Perhaps someone can reassure me that I'm just thinking of it in a distorted manner and that it IS accurate.

: Picture our three heroes, having come across the burnt out Cabin of John and Alexandria Cameron. Their friends are dead and our heroes are hurting... but they move on. Cora demands that the bodies be buried and Hawkeye snaps at her that 'they stay as they lay'. Later he explains that had they buried the corpses, 'anyone looking for our trail would see it as a sign we passed that way'.

: Okay - tell me I'm being stupid here but... wouldn't the line Chingachgood drew around the mocassin print, indicate that someone had passed by that way?? Where ONE mocassin can leave a print, wouldn't the prints of our 'heroes', surrounding the original print, also show up?? And - wouldn't Chingachgook, the man from whom Hawkeye learned all he knows, know better???? And Hawkeye snaps at Cora that they can't do anything to let their 'followers' know where they've been/where they are??? They may as well have erected a sign saying 'we wuz here'!!

: 'It's illogical, captain'!! I just don't believe they would do that and I find that scene quite incongruous. Surely that wouldn't be consistent with a native's normal 'leave no trail' behaviour - or their skills.
