Nailed to a tree near the Chilisquaque Creek, 100 rods from its confluence with the Susquehanna:
March ye 3rd, 1759
An urgent message to Angus MacWilliam:
This morning at 5:00 AM, Seamus, Many Flags and Three Tales left Fort Augusta astride mules, and leading a pack mule loaded with provisions. They are headed toward Raestown, hoping to rendezvous with nephew Half Breed and his party. Word is that the scoundrel, Red Bud, is on his way to try to get Malcolm and Davey Gunn. His sworn revenge for our part in Red Leaf’s death may take some strange twists, since this odoriferous cretin has attempted several times to kill one of the boys here and has failed to do so. He received for his efforts a round ball across his arse, from Seamus’s rifle, and that has not improved his disposition. A number of locals, however, have tasted his revenge, and paid with their lives. As time passes and with each unsuccessful attempt, he becomes more irrational and wild.
Angus, my brother, I think we should follow, too, and lend what assistance we can. I am starting soon toward Ft. Hunter in a whaleboat returning there from Ft. Augusta after delivering provisions. Nancy will be staying here with Gloria and young Timothy, until Seamus returns, so she is not alone at the cabin. From Ft. Hunter, I will go on to Harris Ferry and cross the river and take the main road toward Carlisle and on to Raestown. I think by staying on the main roads, I can get lifts easier.
Rally the sheep, Angus, and meet us all at Raestown or me along the way...you know my route. Hurry, my brother.
Pax aye!!
