Uncles ThreeTales and Many Flags,
While scouting through the Lower Wyoming Valley last week i overheard a disturbing story told by the Proprietor of The Red Root Tavern located on the banks of the Susquehanna River at Catawissa Town. He has become quite famous since his invention of a concocted beverage he calls "Root Beer", obviously named. You may have heard of his previous success with the beverage known as Birch Beer, of which the Blue variety is the most desireable.
Dink Johnson, Sly Fox, "Parsons" Welch, Speedy Hogarth and myself have been mapping in the area of the Wyoming and Lehigh Valleys, and have taken the opportunity of visiting the local taverns whenever possible. That was the occasion to run across your friend A.O.Lichtenfelter, who will deliver this message.
The proprietor and barkeep, Red Root himself, was spinning a tale of woe for all that would listen. I did not pay much attention to his story until i heard the mention of "Loyalhanna Creek". He was going on about his two sons being at the fierce battle, and how one was slaughtered by the 77th Regiment Grenadiers. He then proclaimed that the remaining son has sworn a death threat on the members of the 77th and especially the MacWilliam brothers. I paid close attention to what was said, but asked no questions, not wanting to attract attention and jeopardize the scouting party.
The names of his sons were never mentioned, as i suspect the locals know them well. Red Root concluded his tale by stating his remaining son has now lost all sense of reality and is quite insane. He has taken to the wilderness with one purpose in life, and that is to exterminate all members of the MacWilliam Clan to revenge the death of his brother.
Speedy and Dink have decided the mapping can wait for now, and we will search for the savage. We are on the trail south towards Allemangel. We will be there to help our friends and relations to rid the threat of this demented demon.
