: : : : : Ok, folks ... we're just about there. February 1 is just around the corner & then the floodgates will open.

: : : : : One of the things we focused on this year, more so than in the past, is promoting an atmosphere whereby it'll be just a little easier to get to know one another ... thus,  a whole afternoon & evening off, with the horseback riding, concert at night, & potluck dinner.

: : : : : We also, courtesy of Dana (rememember her?) & Marcia were able to lock up an entire lodging facility for you to rest your weary (and they WILL be weary!) bones at the end of each day. By doing so, we were able to get even lower rates than their usual group deals.

: : : : : As anyone who has looked at the Gathering page knows, it is not mandatory that you stay there ... at The Geneva in Chimney Rock Village. No one will think less of you if you decide, for whatever reason, that you'd prefer to camp at Lake James, or stay near the airport at Asheville, or be near your relatives who might live here in this part of God's Land.

: : : : : However, here are some good reasons TO stay there:

: : : : : 1 - Filling the place enables us to avoid using raffle money to pay for the rest of the rooms.

: : : : : 2 - It's probably cheaper to stay there than most anywhere else ... figure between $77 & $191 per person ... that's for FIVE nights. OK, that's not Bunkhouse rates, but then, this ain't no Bunkhouse!

: : : : : 3 - You've got privacy options the Bunkhouse could never match. This is a regular motel-type lodge. You can choose rooms for 2, 4, & 7, depending on just how much privacy you'd like. 

: : : : : 4 - There are all kinds of extras that everyone will share in, including, a meeting room where folks can linger & meet, that features a full kitchen, wide screen TV, VCR, couches, tables, etc. We will have our Traders' Post there, as well as do our raffles, Ariel's Auction, and exhibits ... plus, there's a Bar & Grill outside. There's a pool, a river, spacious grounds, did I mention a mini-Grand Encampment on Friday & Saturday nights?  ... and all in the shadow of Chimney Rock.

: : : : : 5 - As most of you know, the locations in "The Last of the Mohicans" are spread out over 6 counties .. I think we'll be seeing sites in five of them. Chimney Rock Village is about as central to all places as you are likely to find.

: : : : : 6 - It does present a great chance for you to get to know your fellow Mohicanites!

: : : : : So, before making reservations anywhere else, I ask you to PLEASE consider The Geneva!

: : : : : Reservation period begins February 1. There will be on-line forms & info for you at that time. There'll be a prominent link to them off the Gathering Page ... this is for accommodations at The Geneva as well as movie ticket reservations, etc. Do e-mail Marcia BEFORE sending money for your accommodations, so that we can be sure to get you in the room of your choice ... pending availability!

I'm like an eager lion seconds before the kill, muscles tensed in anticipation of the lunge for my prey; or let's see - how about a rancorous rattlesnake, coiled tight and ready to strike; or maybe an olympic runner positioned to spring at the sound of the starting pistol; or better yet, Magua the moment he swoops down on the unsuspecting colonials, whooping and hollering as he races to the slaughter.

: : Didn't mean to scare you, little guy!  I forgot gnomes are especially enticing to a hungry rattler.  But Clabair's right - wouldn't harm a flea or a gnome.  My enthusiasm and readiness just got the best of me.  See you in June (minus claws, fangs, etc.)
