: : You find the strangest stories on the internet. I've been doing some research for awhile on Chief Joseph Brandt, mainly because he and his tribe settled in my part of Ontario. One search turned up a web site with a story about Major General Arthur St. Clair's daughter Luisa and how Joseph Thayendanega (Brandt) became 'smitten' with her. Interesting story. The url is below for those who might be interested.

: After re-reading the article it looks like the story pertains to Joseph Brandt, the son not Chief Joseph Brandt. Still interesting though, especially considering that the author of the article claims that war could have been averted if the Major hadn't rejected Joseph's marriage proposal.

Yes, Jeri...I was going to mention that earlier but I was needed elsewhere at that moment. Joseph's son is the man in question here. It was a bit late in Joseph's life (1742-1807) for this kind of a thing to occur to him. There are some very good books on Brant. If you search a good book source, you will find several to choose from.
I must take a photo of a Joseph Brant medal I have and send it to you. It is from the dedication of the monument to Joseph Brant in Brantford, Ontario, in 1886.
