*siiiiiiigh*
Ahhhhhhhhhhh...home sweet home! I swear, who'd a-thunk sitting with my feet propped up before the fire (thankee for the suggestion, Miss Gaylee) would feel SEW good! After my horrifying experience in the woods a short time back, I don't think I can get ENOUGH of just restin' & relaxin' around my Famous DownHome Kitchen. Though, to be sure, I must get back to my schedule of cookin'. It's a real responsiblity bein' owner of the Premiere Eatery in all of Mohicanland, and I DO take my responsibilities seriously, after all. It's part & parcel of bein' the RE-fined & genteel Southern lady that I am.
So...since my Peanut Butter Salmon Surprise didn't exactly hit the gastronomic heights I had hoped for (though some of it DID hit the floor, the walls, and the compost heap, depending on the mood of the diner I served it to), I reckon I've got to come up with something a tad more appetizin'. Sure hope She Who Tracks finds me a nice George Roadkill possum soon...heck, even a possum who overestimated his ability to swim to the other side of the river would do. She could scoop it up without ever leavin' her canoe! Once you dry 'em out & roast 'em up, they all taste pretty much the same. But the bottom line is...I need some fresh meat around this place! And SOON!! But for tonight I reckon it's corn on the cob, corn off the cob, corn lying next to the cob, and corn so old it's forgotten what the cob looked like. Yep...plenty of corn, all right. Trouble is...if I use it all up making dinners, there'll be naught left for squeezin's. And we can't have that. Maybe I should mosey on down to the PUMPKIN patch, and see if anything is gettin' ripe THERE. That'd make a nice change at dinner.
*yaaaawns, stretches, and gets up from the rocker*
Reckon I better mosey SLOWLY, though...this ankle's still botherin' me a mite. I dunno what the heck kinda poisonous critter BIT it during my ordeal in the woods (maybe one of Miss Gaylee's wailin' younguns!) but it shore did get infected & swole up, like. For awhile there, it was lookin' mighty grim...not to mention mighty purple and red and downright UGLY. But now, it's doin' pretty well. Sassy made me up a poultice of spider webs & mud & herbs that seemed to do the trick. I'll just baby it along a bit longer, though, to be on the safe side.
PUMPKIN PATCH...here I come!!
*limp...mosey...limp...mosey...limp...*
