: Dear Miss Katie,
: Am sending this Runner with a bundle of goose feathers for your down quilts. The geese are darkenin' the sky like rain clouds headin' south, and the shootin' yesterday got me almost outta lead. Fortunately, while I was skinnin' a doe in the forest last night, I crossed paths with a young man by the name o' Morgan, who says he is bound for the Ohio Territory to start a tradin' post for his fri'nd, John Baynton. When he seed how slick I was takin' and saltin' the skin, Morgan asked if I would like to hire on as a long hunter and make my fortun' with his tradin' company, but I have other obligations to fulfil at the time, and told him as nicely as possible that is not a possibility. Nevertheless, he traded me some lead, salt, sugar and a fine blanket coat for the buckskin plus all the geese I had plucked and drawn and salted. We shared a crisp-cooked goose and some corn fritters afore we parted ways, and I wish him well in his venture.
: Hector is enjoyin' the trip. I woke up this mornin' to find he had wrapped himself in yer quilt, and I was burrowed in a cover o' leaves tryin' to keep warm. Wouldn't mind so much if the hound didn't snore so loud to boot.

Dear 'She...',
I'm sending this reply by 'Return of Post' - sorry, 'Return of Runner'. I insisted he just jump back into his moccasins and get my words back to you post haste! Kept muttering something about 'entitled to a break every two hours, not to mention lunchtimes and... trade unions...' (By the way, do I know that man?!)
But I just HAD to write and let you know that 'bedding' in Mohicanland is indeed going to be a cosy affair this winter, thanks to your sack of goose feathers for my down quilts and duvets!! It sounds as though the results of your Fall Hunt have indeed been very encouraging!! My, oh my, sounds like your skill with the longrifle has once more proved a blessin' on your table!! My grateful thanks!!
Howsever, 'She' - though being new to the Colonies, as I am, and having no real understanding o' such things, I can't help a real feeling of forboding at thoughts of your 'entertaining' a young man regarding new 'Trade Agreements'!! Oh, man!! Even as I SPEAK, the Mohicanland Traders are a'squabblin' an' a'fightin' among themselves!! Should they get a whiff o' competition squattin' in their Territory, there's NO KNOWING the kind o' trouble we can expect!!! That Commander Achillse and the 'Wah-Teh-Wah Warrioresses' are just SPOILIN' for fun - as they call it!! It's been far too quiet for their liking and they are pickin' on the innocent, just to stir things up a mite!! Well, HM CLAIMS to be 'innocent' but, you know the old saying 'innocent is, as innocent does'!! (No, I DON'T actually know WHAT that means, but no matter!) I'm just trying to warn you - it's perhaps not politic to take up with strangers on the George Road!!
Anyhow, I'm pleased that you and Hector are having 'quality time' on your 'camp out'. And tell that ole hound to let you get wrapped up in some o' that quilt and I'll make HIM a bit blanket when you get back!
Take care, 'She',
Happy Huntin',
Miss Katie.
