: Just out of curiosity, what is the name of the weapon used my Chingachook? You know, the club like thing with the bend in the middle. The one he totally wasted Magua with. Thanks.
Its called a gun stock tomahawk. Its bent to be weighted so that it can be thrown with the blade striking. It mostly comprised of wood, except for the metal blade and any individual attachment such as paint, fathers, or maybe leather wrappings. If you notice it has the shape of a long arm. No doubt that indians must have at some point thrown a rifle or musket, discovered the physics that pertains, and some enterprising soul, improved on the matter making a knife holding tomahawk.
Gun stock tomahawks seem to be of eastern hardwood indian origin only. I have never seen one from any tribes which were more westerly.
If you have the History Channel 4 tape set, Frontiers: Legends of the Old Northwest, in the Pontiacs Rebellion episode you will see another one of these tomahawks. By the way the 4 tape set I spoke of is superb!! It is comprised of 4 documentaries: Rogers Rangers, Pontiacs Rebellion, George Rogers Clark's "Long Knives", and Tecumseh: Dream of Confederacy. All tapes are approx 1 hr long, complete with historians and lots of re-enactors making you feel like you are really there. It goes into specifics on why things occurred and how. Its a must see!! I recommend it to anyone who likes LOTM or is interested in The French and Indian War, American Revolution, or the "Age of Reason"(18th Century) in general. Take care and God speed.
