It is my belief that I have the right to defend myself. Not disarm myself in programs that leave the lawless armed. It is my belief that the 2nd Ammendment has nothing to do with a right to hunt, crime control, or any other reason that the reason Thomas Jefferson gives - as Elaine so eloquently stated. I made my statement as barely and bluntly as I could so there would ben no fuzziness about the logic. It is our right to possess arms.
You don't have to agree with it. Nobody is required to possess a gun. But nobody is allowed to prohibit me from owning one either. And in fact, not to put too sharp a point on it, but if the intent of the 2nd ammendment is to keep the citizens armed against the possibility of abrogations of the Consitution and basic rights.....then it makes sense that we are not prohibited from owning the weapons that would be used against us. The 2nd Ammendment does not say "the government shall be permitted M-16's while the right of the citizen to posses a deer rifle is not infringed".

It was no attack on you. It was a clear statement of my basic beliefs which are SUPPORTED by logic and the Constitution.

: What has been cleared up is this stupid idea that I had....you know the one......the idea that I could say something in a polite and non-provocative manner in order to stimulate the old grey matter and allow me to learn from the opinions and experience of others. I have tried very hard to think about what I post so that I remember the feelings of others, even in the middle of a serious discussion, but right now, I am tired, I am unhappy, and I don't want to do this anymore - even Huggy has her limits.
