The hovering cloud of smoke was moved out by a cold front--- they had it as far east as Charlotte, and 911 said there were *a lot* of calls reporting "smelling smoke"! (this is about 100 miles away) I don't think there was enough rain to put out the fires, but it must have helped. You can see the mountains today in the direction of Asheville, but the range where you normally see Table Rock is still completely shrouded in smoke. As far as I know, Highway 105 is still closed.
