Buffalo hunters armed with a Sharps could wipe out hundreds of buffalo in a few hours if they got a "buffalo stand"....sad, very sad, what us white people can do!! Anyway, the story of the last buffalo in PA is interesting (I lived nearby Middleburg at one time also, which is near Selinsgrove, which is near Sunbury, which is north of Harrisburg.....you get the picture!!), but I don't believe the story was ever completely proven...supposedly this woods bison (the last buffalo in PA) had lived in the area for quite a few years, and one day it went mad and crashed through someone's cabin near Middleburg (early 1800s??) so the owner of the cabin shot the buffalo. It even had a name and was quite a mascot for the area.
: Ok, nuff of that...what's the next subject....Delaware Language? Listen to cousin Seamus (Mikey). I have the Wennawoods book also, but never took the time to learn the language cause, who am I going to speak it with!! However, I do know Indian sign language and Sign Talker (a real person, you know) and I have spent days just signing together, no talking!! Spent a day in a tipi once with a winter storm swirling outside, and we signed the whole time. It's a great experience and Indian sign is a beautiful thing to watch.

The Middleburg beast who was alledgedly dispatched for busting a cabin door story has never been proven. Another "fable" of local fame is that it was none other than Col. John Kelly, of RevWar fame, (whose farm is in Union County, Buffalo Twp., ) shot the last buffalo in these here parts, and his rifle, which did the deed, is ensconced in a place of honor, along with a card that says so, in the Packwood House Museum in Lewisburg,PA, home of Bucknell University (and the mighty Bucknell Bison, I might add). I have seen this powerful awesome historical rifle. Only problem is that it is a late 19th century rifle of small caliber. The good colonel was dead and gone his own self for about 60 years or better when this marvelous rifle was crafted!
Methinks it is so much Buffalo chips.
