: Firstly, "Son of the Morning Star" can readily be found at Amazon.com. We have a link to that title in our Book Shoppe (Use link below & scroll to near the bottom of the page).

: Secondly, I have to disagree with the IMDB assessment of the historical accuracy. The film is a very good representation of events - as films go, VERY historically accurate (a few little flaws) - but the "myth" of Custer fathering a Cheyenne child has hardly been proven false. Much debate has taken place on that, but Cheyenne oral tradition states it to be true. Custer DID spend much time with a Cheyenne lass named Mon-ah-se-ta (that's close ... exact spelling escapes me, and it's too dark to look up right now! :)), one of the captives following the Battle of the Was_ita (can't spell it due to this darn censure thing we have) in 1868. Tradition says she bore a child ... a light-haired child ... as a result. Others claim she was already pregnant, so who knows. It is not, however, PROVEN to be true OR false, though Libby Custer would certainly claim it false!

: Anyway, the film is not nearly as dramatic as it could have been, but offers a lot of plusses & is fun to watch. I know you're interested in Rodney, but it's also fun spotting Captain Jack Winthrop in there ... Boy, does he EVER look different. Best quality of the film is its approach, told from the differing perspectives of two women. Best, and most accurate segment: The trip from Fort Abraham Lincoln to the banks of Little Bighorn. Fantastic depiction of events!

: : : I had heard about the movie, but have been unable to find it in the local video stores.  Doesn't it focus mostly on Custer?  I wouldn't mind watching it if just to compare how each movie portrays the battle and the participation of each of the major players (i.e., Crazy Horse, Custer, etc.).

: : Son of the Morning Star, which is a made-for-TV movie, can be difficult to find.  I purchased it from CDNow and they had to special order it.  Here’s the plot summary from IMDB.com:

: : “The life of George Armstrong Custer comes alive in this made for television movie. The story accurately follows the facts, only straying from the truth in its suggestion that Custer may have fostered an illegitimate Indian child, a myth which has since been proven false. “

: : It’s well worth the effort to try and track down a copy of the movie because it’s well made.   The movie’s bound to be aired again on TV.  I’ll post a message on the board if I found out that it’s going to be aired again.
