I think if Alice had not figured out by THAT time that daddy lost his heart at Massacre Valley, surely that line would have sunk in...maybe...maybe not, given her state near catatonic of shock. At least, I choose to think she was aware enough to realize that there would be no help coming forth from Papa.

Hi Marcia!

Drats...missed that one! However, I'm not sure Alice would've been too quick on the uptake by that point. As you say, she was more or less in a state of shock. Perhaps it would have been more merciful if she hadn't realized the implications of Hawkeye's words.
