: Jolly good show, Kate! ... and, thanks for the plug!!!
: You pretty much answered the questions as I would have ...
: Linda, here's my additional two cents worth ...
: As for the DVD, the flaws you hear about, if you are referring to technical flaws, are, in my humble opinion, vastly overrated. The quality of the production far exceeds that of the video. Nor, is it a "butcher" editing job. The film flows just fine. If you've never seen the movie before, you will not, of course, notice changed dialogue, but nor will you feel the film is missing anything or is erratic.
: As for "Poe," that's Nathaniel Poe, Mann's version of Natty Bumppo, Cooper's given name to his character, Hawkeye.
: The officer you speak of ... I'd have to watch it again ... is he British or French? If French, he MAY be Bill Bozic.
: Hope that helps a bit!

Hi Rich,
Thank YOU for helping out with some answers. I have to say, Linda, that I concur with Rich's evaluation of the DVD. I too feel that the quality of the DVD far exceeds that of the various video versions. As for actual 'content' of the DVD, I fear that that comes down to personal preference. There is certainly divided opinion in this camp, on certain 'changes' made, making it very hard to give you assurance that you will like it.
I think the conclusion that we have come to in this matter is that all versions of the film are available to us, DVD, THX etc. If we don't like or aren't in the mood to watch one version, we have the option to watch another!! It's as simple as that!!
But it IS worth bearing this in mind when watching the DVD for the first time. If possible, watch it with an open mind, and think of it as just another version. Perhaps, like many here, you will consider it as 'simply the best'! Perhaps you'll think, like some of the others, it is a sheer waste of good a good cd. But in the end, you'll have to decide for yourself. Whichever way you go, you'll be in good company here!! (And no one will hate you for the choice you make!) :0)
Take care,
Kate.
