Linda, here's my additional two cents worth ...

As for the DVD, the flaws you hear about, if you are referring to technical flaws, are, in my humble opinion, vastly overrated. The quality of the production far exceeds that of the video. Nor, is it a "butcher" editing job. The film flows just fine. If you've never seen the movie before, you will not, of course, notice changed dialogue, but nor will you feel the film is missing anything or is erratic.

As for "Poe," that's Nathaniel Poe, Mann's version of Natty Bumppo, Cooper's given name to his character, Hawkeye.

The officer you speak of ... I'd have to watch it again ... is he British or French? If French, he MAY be Bill Bozic.
