: For the uninitiated ... In case you might be wondering about the reason for Elaine's curt reponse to "Bonnie" ... Let's just say that her post has ALL the earmarks of an old nemesis of ours; one who is NOT welcome here under ANY guise!

: : : from the research and interviews i read. there was a love scene that was shot on film and cut from the final film version. what i found out was that Daniel Day Lewis was upset that too much of Eric's incredible face was in so many scenes and he was the lead actor. Eric's presence was cut down a lot to beef up Lewis' character. Funny thing, no matter how much they cut out...we still all came out of that movie wanting to know who the brother was and not nearly as much attention was on Lewis.

: : : If I remember correctly, I called the studio to find out about a director's cut (fyi, already released and not as good as the film release version) with the scenes left out. It was either someone there that told me the scoop or someone who talked to Eric's manager on a constant basis...

: : : Problem is...without those scenes between Eric and Jodhi May it makes her sacrifice at the end not as believable. From what we saw, when did they have a chance to fall in love??? Those scenes need to be put back in or at least should have been included on the DVD release of Mohicans as Deleted Scenes...

: : *****

: : Research? Interviews? Studio calls?

: : There is no mystery about the cut scenes & there are no interviews that provide basis for your rather odd 'info' -
: : Daniel Day-Lewis was the leading actor, like it or not, & was in no jeopardy of being upstaged by any supporting actor or actress.
: : It's a tad irresponsible to post such things.

: : The scenes were cut by editor's choice. The earlier release was not a Director's Cut (fyi) but a longer version put out for a limited (test run) time. The Director's Cut DVD (fyi) IS the Director's Cut & there are some among us who find it to be fantastic as is.

: : I DID interview Eric Schweig & other LOTM actors & DID ask about these scenes & their omission. Never was Daniel Day-Lewis an issue; certainly your statement about his being upset just doesn't fly. (By the way, a studio rep would NEVER relate such 'info' to a fan caller, even if it were true.)

: : Facts; there was a love scene filmed that involved no sex but, in Eric's words, "puppy love."
: : The script originally called for a more graphic sex scene but was NOT filmed as scripted.
: : The cuts were made because the studio wanted the film shortened. Those who edited felt the secondary 'love scene' was either less necessary to the story or was not filmed to the director's satisfaction. (Love scenes don't always work.)That's their call - that's why filmmakers use editors; to edit.
: : Daniel Day-Lewis' feelings had nothing to do with the cut scenes of Eric Schweig.

: : Let's not speculate when not necessary.

To Rich,

Thanks for the explanation, from all of us who are new here and who may not have all the 'history'. I'm slowly making my way through the archives, but it takes awhile and I hadn't made it to any yet pertaining to this subject.

...Jeri
