Hey, Linda, look at that clout. See how it's just a little longer in the back than in the front? Looks like what Many Flags descibed a few days ago. This clout is also wool. I don't know if it's madder (a root used in making the "reds"), but, having seen it at Gathering, I can tell you that it is a light weight wool. This ia a good picture of what a 1750's coureur de bois, ( an unlicensed French fur trader) might have looked like. Striped wool socks would also be appropriate, believe it or not, and a polkadot head scarf, even a blue and white striped shirt. Les habitants (the french citizens of New France) were very partial to wide stripes and HUGE ( up to 3" in diameter) polkadots. During the F&I War, coureur de bois would have been roaming the backwoods. They were concidered a kind of outlaw by the French government.

This is Clabert's area of expertise, but since he's not here...:)

Hmmmm...LOTM...I believe DDL's clout was red with white designs that "looked" like ribbin decorations, but may have been pieced like a quilt. This "red" would probably have been a madder red. There, that should do it. Definitely six degrees! :)
