OOOps....just saw a word I missed, to make my posting a bit more coherant.....the British Army allowed 1 woman for every 50 men (or, as I state, something like that).
Also, there were instances in both armies where prostitutes were run out of camp...by the wives of soldiers!! Remember, our colonial ancestors read the same Bible we read...and, in most instances, adhered to it a lot better!! Prostitution was not condoned...although it definitely existed...but was not practiced by those women whom we call "camp followers".
