You know that what I mean, is not an attack on the Church, the institution, per se, but a metaphor for how men can and did corrupt it. You have to take it within the context it was presented.

: My point was there were several inquisitions, rather than one, & the presumed referenced inquisition(s) was the work of a secular nation (though rooted/masked in religious tenets & empowered by the Church, the tribunals evolved into realms of secular authority). (Regarding Spain, of course, Torquemada was THE driving force & quite fanatic - ) I didn't want to imply it was secular in nature ...
