If my memory serves me correctly (and someone please correct me if I'm wrong), Michael Mann brought back some of the cast months after shooting had been finished in order to reshoot some scenes. One being the scene where Uncas looks longingly at Alice at the Riverwalk. Thus the earring got switched. Terribly memory these movie people have sometimes....

: What you are thinking of Caitlin is the scene at CRP where Cora & Hawkeye embrace. That is the only scene actors returned to do after principal photography "wrapped," as they say. However, where you might have been confused ... the shot of Uncas staring at Alice, to which Penny refers, was done separately from the actual River Walk scene ... it was one of the last little things filmed and was done at the Asheville warehouse where the cave scene was filmed ... just outside. That was that. After filming there, they all went home!
