No way, they couldn't strip fast enough

Getting naked is not a viable option. Do you know how many small buttons, laces, and clips there were on women's clothing? This was before the era of the zipper, remember. Trying to unbutton, unlace, and unclasp all of that, or even just to striping down to bloomers and a dickie would take a good ten minutes. (does anyone else find the thought of Jodhi May and Madeline Stowe in soaking wet, clinging dickies um, interesting, to say the least?)
And then they would have to hold on to all their clothes while they jumped and swam for it. After all, pleasent as it might be, we just can't have two proper English upper class girls running about the frontier in their unmentionables now can we? Think of the scandal back in Boston!!
