Dear Friend,

We are in reciept of the letter from Seamus concerning the attack on Fort Carillon. I pray this fines you well and still among the living.
It must have been a terrible battle. I sit here in this great wood and swat atbugs and lice wondering what horrors you have witnessed.
We are all wondering about our own mortallity today. Such and event brings to mind our own ability to deal with ourselves and make peace with our God. I have noticed a couple of the lads reading from the Book of Common Prayer.

We are to move on towards Raystown and then further West. I am sure the French are aware of our efforts. Even the birds seem to become silent at our approach.

Give my regards to Seamus and Chauncey. As well as the rest of your party.

Respectfully,

William Johnston, Pvt.
77th Highland Regiment
Gren. Coy.
