: : : : If you like Highland Games and have a sense of humor about what goes on there, by all means read Sharyn McCrumb's Highland Laddie Gone. I met her at a book signing (She wrote a novel about the first white woman hanged in NC) and she admitted to borrowing heavily from Grandfather Mountain Highland Games even though the story is set in a fictional place in Virginia.

: : : : Also, the Discovery Channel did the GMHG on one of its "Travelers" episodes, and it also has healthy doses of humor.(Including old kilt jokes)

: : : : I hate to think what kind of novel Sharyn would write about Mohican Gatherings, but it would probably be a cliffhanger and absolutely tear your heart out!

: : : Hey, hey Susan,

: : : Another neat coincidence, I LOVED the Ballad of Frankie Silver (is that right, it's been a while) what a SAD STORY!!! I'll definately be looking for the one you mentioned.

: : : Thanks,

: : Diana & Susan, Sharyn McCrumb writes lovely stories about North Carolina. I think I've read just about all of them, and mostly, I love the descriptions of the mountains threaded through them. For the life of me, I can't think of any titles to recommend, but they are always intriguing & good escapes! And unless my mind has gone completely (a definite possibility!), the woman who is a key figure in many of the books, if not all of them, is Nora Boneset, who has a touch of the "sight," as they say, giving the stories a nice eerie feeling, as well. Good reads, all!

: Maybe her name is Bonesteel...well, it's something to do with bones, anyway! ;o)

You left out Zombies of the Gene Pool, which was written about our area, just west of GF Mt. NightSky
