I found the Patriot exceedingly poor. One of my great summer disappointments. It wasn't the acting, although Anne's rather over-enthusiastic speech was a bit much and she squeaked like a chipmunk...
I didn't like the writing. It was too long and too violent, which is odd because I generally don't mind long and violent. i.e. one of my favorite movies is Braveheart.
It 's just that there wasn't a need for the length; it could have been dramatically cut in the script. Was there really a need for Gabriel and Anne's courtship? Couldn't they have have started the movie with that already in existence?
And the directors just had to stick in the cliched fight scene where the protagonist and antigonist see each other across the battlefield, head right towards one another killing anyone in the way and have a h
