: Greetings! Not having seen an answer to my earlier question, I rephrase it in the hopes of being clearer. We know from the script (thank you, www.mohicanpress.com!!!) that Cora agrees to stay in America and be Hawkeye's wife. We also know from observation that Cora is made of pretty stout stuff, but we also know she's from an upper class group in England. So she wouldn't know how to raise a garden, cook over an open fire (much less build one), tan leather, make soap, or any of the other tasks other frontier women knew. If Cora and Hawkeye are to succeed in their future lives, she needs to learn this stuff, but there seems no one to teach her. And surely he cannot do all this work for her. So, my question is, what happened to them after the part we see in the story ends? Best regards, Shannon

Hi, Shannon! I think your earlier post was probably worded just fine. It just seems to be a bit of a slow day, and for some reason, no one tackled the question. We've talked about that (and theorized a bit) subject in the past. I don't think there has been any agreement as to what would have happened. Cooper's books tell a completely different story, so you can't go by them. In them, Uncas is in love with Cora, Alice is the older (I believe I've got this right...Gayle?) and everything is completely different. Hawkeye is in love with neither of them, as I understand it. (Haven't gotten around to reading it yet.)

So, we are left to finish off the movie's tale as we see fit. In my opinion, Cora is plenty strong enough to handle frontier life. Any woman brave enough to shoot Indians, and jump on one who's trying to hurt her sister, is brave enough to face most anything. Even though she was raised as a "lady," she had "seen the face of war before," and worked in the surgery, so she probably knew a lot more than we give her credit for. She is also seen carrying laundry in the fort, and probably has basic cooking skills, too.

Anyway, I vote for her following Hawkeye to Can-tuck-ee, learning anything she needed to know from the Indians there, and living happily ever after in a log cabin or teepee somewhere, lovin' her man & raisin' his kinds! Works for ME! ;o)
