Okay, another movie question

This one has probably already been discussed before, too, but this is another burning question I have about LOTM: When they are about to bbq Duncan, and Cora keeps looking over her shoulder while Hawkeye is dragging her away, there is one Indian who turns around and looks at her....this seems significant somehow, who is he? Why is he looking at her instead of joining in the fun?
