: Hello to every reader of this wonderful board and to Elaine & Rich, owners of this amazing site! I have been visiting this site for months now, reading the posts and admiring all the different "pages", but as I didn't have the guts to e-mail from the office, I had to wait until I got myself my own PC before I could make this "jump"!
: Imagine me secretly internetting in the office somewhere in February of this year; the first thing I wanted Altavista to look up for me was... Eric Schweig! (Oh, the wonderful interview I found!) Seriously now, I have been a major LOTM fan since I saw the movie on the big screen of an Amsterdam movie theatre in 1992 (I believe it was).
: I have been reading books about Indians since I was able to read.
: Anyway, the name James Fenimore Cooper has since been special to me. So when I took a friend to see LOTM when it finally opened in Amsterdam, I didn't tell her "the story" because that would have spoiled it. Boy, we were swept away instantly: the music enthralled us and the opening Elk Hunt scene (as I now know it should be called) made us wonder what was happening (it looked as if DDL was running for his life). And then I saw .... who was that???!!! Uncas!!! Well, we both were speechless during and after this amazing movie. (And I was lucky because my friend was swooning over DDL, so ES was all mine!)
: Eric Schweig... always thought his beautiful eyebrows looked Eskimo-ish...well, now I know why! (Everyone must be sick of me by now! Sorry, just stop reading. Can't help being a fan for life!)
: OK, back to LOTM. Of course I bought the soundtrack as soon as I could find it. Of course I've got several VHS-tapes (the BBC aired it some time ago and did something with the colors, so I saw a lot more details.)
: BUT A DIRECTOR'S CUT: YES, PLEASE!!! The things I would do for that...
: Now I only have to order myself some stuff from your Mohican giftshop, arrange my life so that I can be at your Gathering next year and save enough to order my very own handcarved Eric Schweig-mask to suffer from Mohican-itis (Uncas-itis?) for the rest of my life!
: Well, I'll have to stop now. Talk another time about the books I'm reading (sorry, not Cooper at the moment).
: Oh, yes, how do I sign this? There has been someone posting with the same name. Let me see...
: Greetings to everyone in Mohicanland,
: Kenau Simonsz Hasselaer
: (A certain Dutch Trader will now instantly know where I reside, and no, it's not Amsterdam!)
Patty,
Official Welcomes to Mohicanland. So glad you finally got a PC. I have one at home and one at work, and when I first found this site, I was posting nearly 24 hours a day. I'm still (4 months later) SOOOO far behind in my work from posting there!
And another Schweiger. YES!!! We're a soppy bunch. Do you know, I still can't finish the book because I know Uncas is going to die and since Uncas in my mind's eye is Eric Schweig, I just don't want that to a happen. Elaine keeps telling me it's inevitable and I should just finish the book, but I figure if I don't, then he/they will remain immortal. How stupid can I get??
Anyway, keep posting. Write that letter!
Cheers,
Sarah
